A quartet of titles from the UK and Germany arrived today, including two by Peter Greenaway (“The Belly of an Architect” and “A Zed & Two Noughts), another customer requested copy of Indicator’s Blu-ray of Brian De Palma’s “Body Double,” and a new addition to the shop’s inventory, Otto Preminger’s “The Cardinal.”
“The Cardinal” is a sweeping, nearly three hour widescreen Technicolor epic that chronicles the career of a Boston priest named Stephen Fermoyle as he deals with such hot-button issues as abortion, Southern racism, and the rise of the Nazi menace. The film was nominated for a half-dozen Academy Awards, including a Best Director nod for Preminger, but came away empty-handed on Oscar night despite a standout performance by Best Supporting Actor nominee John Huston.
