A trio of titles made their debut in the 4xblu online store today: Fassbinder’s “Querelle,” George Lampin’s “Crime & Punishment,” and Takeshi Kitano’s “Brother.” A well-known comedian, television personality, and writer in Japan, Kitano reeled off a string of acclaimed films after assuming the director’s chair for 1989’s “Violent Cop.” “Brother” was intended to be his American breakthrough, but alas, the film failed to make the intended impression. However, for fans of Kitano — even those who might not be wild about “Brother” — this German Blu-ray release’s inclusion of the documentary profile “Scenes by the Sea” makes it well worth considering.
