A bumper crop of arrivals came into the shop today, including a quintet of debuts: Richard Franklin’s “Road Games,” Frank Capra’s “Lost Horizon,” Johnnie To’s “Sparrow,” and both volumes of “Martin Scorsese Presents Masterpieces of Polish Cinema.”
Based on a survey of 21 newly-restored Polish films that toured the United States in 2014, each volume has contained eight films and, to this point, only been available domestically on an extremely limited basis from Milestone Films (which is distributing these Polish sets in the United States and Canada). As of this writing, only 290 Volume I sets have been made available in North America and, thusfar, only 250 Volume II sets have hit the domestic market. Volume III was supposedly scheduled for October, but considering there was an 11 month gap between the first two volumes coming out it’s pretty safe to say that’s probably not going to happen.
