A quintet of titles arrived from Spain today, including a pair of new additions to the shop’s inventory: Julio Medem’s “Sex and Lucia” and “The Day of the Beast” by Alex de la Iglesia. Having won a Goya Award for his debut, “Vacas,” Julio Medem continued to make a name for himself with Cannes screenings of “The Red Squirrel” and “Earth” in the mid-90s before breaking out internationally, first with “Lovers of the Arctic Circle” and then “Sex and Lucia.” The film also made a star of Paz Vega, the actress who plays Lucia, leading to roles in American pictures like James L. Brooks’s “Spanglish” and the Morgan Freeman vehicle “10 Items or Less.”
