Today’s lone arrival is a new addition to the shop’s inventory, Masters of Cinema’s Blu-ray of Andre de Toth’s “Day of the Outlaw.” The tension is practically palpable in this stark, menacing western with its unforgiving Oregon exteriors and ramshackle set design that aptly conveys just how bare the cupboards could get during winter in the wild West. Add Robert Ryan as a consumate antihero, Burl “Have a holly jolly Christmas” Ives as the ringleader of a band of rowdy, sex-starved army deserters, and pre-“Gilligan’s Island” Tina Louise as the one who got away from Ryan and you’ve got a combustible concoction that feels like it could blow at any moment.
