Another trio of titles has been added to the 4xblu online store, with today’s batch consisting of Don Coscarelli’s “The Beastmaster,” Luis Buñuel’s “Fever Mounts at El Pao,” and Jane Campion’s “Bright Star.”
Campion first established herself on the international circuit with arthouse faves “Sweetie” and “An Angel at My Table” before rocketing to mainstream recognition with 1993’s “The Piano.” However, her star dimmed over the following decade as her next three features were largely seen as critical and commercial letdowns. She has since enjoyed a resurgence, though, first with the release of “Bright Star,” a biopic chronicling the romance between poet John Keats and renowned 19th century fashion authority Fanny Brawne, and the television series “Top of the Lake,” for which she is the co-creator, writer, and sometimes director. The French Blu-ray of “Bright Star” is quite a value for Campion enthusiasts, as it includes (albeit in standard def) three of her early short films and a “Bright Star” making-of documentary.
