Today’s lone arrival is the Region A compatible Australian Blu-ray of Robert Redford’s “Quiz Show.” After establishing himself as a top box office draw during the late 60s and 70s with smash hits like “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Sting,” and “All the President’s Men,” Redford made his directorial debut in 1980 with “Ordinary People,” which won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. After Redford’s next two directorial efforts (“The Milagro Beanfield War” and “A River Runs Through It”) proved more modestly successful, Redford helmed “Quiz Show,” based on a real life scandal that was brought on by the 1959 revelation that the outcome of several of television’s most popular game shows had been predetermined. Although it would fail to take home an Oscar, “Quiz Show” earned four nominations, including nods for for Best Picture and Best Director, and was included by both Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert on their year-end Top 10 lists for 1994.
