Today’s trio of online store additions includes Carlos Saura’s “Ana and the Wolves,” Artificial Eye’s “The Roy Andersson Collection” box set (which contains “A Swedish Love Story,” “Songs From the Second Floor,” “You, the Living,” and “A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence”), and Philip D’Antoni’s “The Seven-Ups.”
“The Seven-Ups” is an early 70s cop film that stars Roy “You’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat” Scheider as the leader of an elite unit known for taking down hoods via methods that aren’t always by the book (the film’s title is a reference to the felony convictions, which carry sentences of seven years or more, that they pin on their targets). In addition to directing and producing “The Seven-Ups,” Philip D’Antoni also produced “Bullit” and “The French Connection,” two other stellar cop films of the time that, like “The Seven-Ups,” are known for extended car chases (“The French Connection,” like “The Seven-Ups,” even stars Scheider as a character named Buddy).
