4xblu received a quintet of titles from the UK today that included restocks of David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart,” Claude Chabrol’s “La Ceremonie,” and another copy of the recently-arrived “Ran” by Akira Kurosawa, as well as two new additions to the shop’s inventory: Carol Reed’s “The Fallen Idol” and Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s “The Marriage of Maria Braun.” Hanna Schygulla plays the titular Maria Braun in a role that’s the crowning achievement of her partnership with Fassbinder, a collaboration that ranks with everything from D.W. Griffith/Mary Pickford and Josef von Sternberg/Marlene Dietrich to Zhang Yimou/Gong Li and Aki Kaurismäki/Kati Outinen in the pantheon of great director-actress pairings.
