Today’s additions include a first: the first title to make its debut in the 4xblu online shop without previously being available in-store. This distinction goes to the Spanish Blu-ray of Luis Garcia Berlanga’s “Placido,” which joins Michael Powell’s “The Edge of the World” and “Lord Jim” by Richard Brooks in today’s offerings. Some of you may be familiar with Berlanga because of Criterion’s announcement that it’s releasing his film “The Executioner” in October. However, prior to “The Executioner,” Berlanga and screenwriter Rafael Azcona teamed for the first of ten feature length collaborations, “Placido,” a black comedy that garnered a Best Foreign Film nomination in 1962.
