Dreyer’s “The Passion of Joan of Arc,” whose star, stage actress Maria Falconetti (in her lone starring role as the titular Joan) gives what is considered one of the greatest performances in screen history; Karel Zeman’s “Invention for Destruction,” which showcases his unique blend of live action and animation; and Jean Renoir’s “Boudu Saved From Drowning,” which many today are aware of because it was remade during the 80s as “Down and Out in Beverly Hills.”
