Only two arrivals today, but they both happen to be restocks of highly coveted box sets. While BFI’s Dreyer box might initially just seem like a Blu-ray upgrade of the DVD box Criterion released, closer inspection reveals that, beyond adding “Master of the House” to the Criterion set’s “Ordet,” “Gertrud,” “Day of Wrath,” and “My Metier,” the BFI set not only adds a wealth of supplemental materials but also includes seven short films directed by Dreyer, making this set a must for fans of the Danish director.
Not to be outdone, the Hammer Horror box packs a wallop in its own right, bundling together a staggering 15 of the studio’s most beloved titles at a price that works out to less than nine dollars a movie, making it a tremendous bargain as well. As a bonus, it also throws in a pair of DVDs with “The World of Hammer” a documentary series comprised of 13 half-hour episodes.
